About Me

My name is Julie Kozak and I'm married to an amazing and supportive husband and have four children.  I've always been creative and love to paint in addition to sewing. I'm a California native and live on a property with lots of animals.  I love the outdoors and have a passion for horses.   I started sewing when our oldest daughter, born in 2004, was young and most people were taking Christmas photos in pretty dresses, we didn’t have that…we are Jewish.

I went to the fabric store and got Hanukkah material and a pattern and went to my machine and did my best to make something cute for her photos.  I loved it and sewed so much stuff and even her first birthday dress.  I made costumes and other fun stuff throughout the years and bought way too much fabric and a new machine.  I was hooked and now I had to do more.  I would alter clothes for other people and made lots of baby gift stuff.

I was the mom at midnight trying to put something together for school for a play.  I've also made nap sack for daycare centers.  I love to help others and bring out creativity in them too.   Eventually I was approached by a woman who was looking for a solution for camping with a portable crib and we got this going in 2009.

How It Started

In 2009 when a woman reached out to me because she wanted a sleeping bag for a portable crib while she camped.  She couldn't get enough blankets to keep her kids warm at night and easy to use.

We started drawing some designs and got to work.  I bought comforters from department stores, cut them, used old sheets, and reshaped them to make a prototype.  We finally agreed on a style and off we went to the patent office.  It was so exciting to see this could work.

The solution to lost blankets and great nights and naps had begun.  We made lots of changes and many hours and fabric used, we have a great product. We attended birth and baby shows to promote the Kozysak, in the SF Bay area.   I've continued the sewing and started the patent process but not alone, this woman gave me the idea for what it is today.  We are still friends but the business is mine.

This product is so easy to use for naps and night but also can be used for much more.  Thanks for reading our story.
